Turtle in the Bedroom

The exhibition “Turtle in the Bedroom” is a personal narrative woven from memory, objects, and associations. It stems from autoethnographic research—its curator draws on family history and memories encapsulated in images, scents, gestures, and sounds. The show features two objects from her grandparents’ home alongside works by eight contemporary women artists whose creations stirred something familiar and intimate within her. Each piece was chosen through personal associations—sometimes a single glance was enough to summon a specific memory.
The curator invites the audience into simple, almost ritualistic gestures: cracking sunflower seeds, lighting a cigarette, or sinking into an old armchair—so they might, even for a moment, become her.
The exhibition will take place in the now-empty space of the former art branch of the Raczyński Library on Wroniecka Street in Poznań—a place she returns to after many years. This act is a closure—personal, educational, and curatorial.
