Edda Mann

Tree, my friend.

opening

In the German language, the tree is classified as masculine, but I perceive it as feminine, in a big part because of the deep friendships I share with my female friends. The tree, the queen, majestic, a story teller and secret keeper, a constant companion. Beauty in its pure and vulnerable form.

I am looking forward to seeing you and your friends and beloved ones in Poznań at the Pyramida Gallery, which is one of the most lovely and inspiring places in one of the most beautiful cities I know and with the best people of course ❤.
PEACE”

In the exhibition “The tree, my girlfriend” Edda Mann presents images of a wide variety of trees, most of which are found in Berlin and Poznań.

Her human girlfriends are Edda Mann’s most important companions. Women who stood by her side during life-shattering moments, moments when the ground began to shake and pain overwhelmed her. Moments when hope for improvement, perhaps even happiness and peace, had been lost. Yet she also shares joy, tearful laughter, and beautiful moments with these women. They have shaped her life, and without these girlfriends, she would not be where she is today.

In the German language, the tree is classified as masculine, but Edda Mann perceives it as feminine, in a big part because of the deep friendships she shares with her female friends. She paints the trees, her constant companions, her girlfriends in Berlin, as well the ones that caught her eye in Poznań and other places. Trees that communicated with her and inspired her. A tree offers shade, fresh air, constant change; it has experienced more than the person currently looking at it and will likely outlive them.
The tree is the queen, majestic, a story teller and secret keeper, beauty in its pure and vulnerable form. It needs water, sun, and fresh air and perhaps an occasional caressing hand just like a girl-friend.
