Pale body of roots tangled in the earth Albert Camus, The Stranger Root filling is a survival strategy – sealing cracks, patching holes in narratives, renewing old bonds, but also confronting what lies deep beneath the surface. Weaves, bindings, connections, braids… Everything around us has its adhesive, points of contact, hinges. Everyone has roots – lifelines stretching regardless of the darkness of night. Despite our daily efforts, joints wear out, and roots decay. We delude ourselves that another root canal treatment will ease the issue, that fertilizing depleted soil will save the harvest. We believe in the stories told to us before sleep, during sermons, or at conferences. Yet, we struggle to pass down remedies for trauma, and our great-grandmothers’ recipes have led us back to the starting point. That is why each of us seeks a path, beginning with the simple act of getting out of bed, tying our shoes, and taking a step forward to face the fears surrounding us. The ROOT FILLING exhibition is a collection of perspectives on the relationships between artists and the world around them, deepened by the desire to confront what is old but not past. What traces do we carry within us, and how do we reconstruct them? Can they be healed, or merely patched with temporary fillings? Nicole Klinge, Wiktoria Pietrzak
