“A diagram is a visual simplification of an idea. In the case of my intentions, it has been used as a framework or leitmotif, in which imagination becomes a tool for anticipation, projecting our intentions. In a simple drawing, I outlined an area that takes a geometric form (oval or rectangular) and suggested a distance that can be traversed beyond the area. It is a journey beyond the area. Reflecting on, for example, Jacques Lacan’s diagram of trauma, Edward Hall’s research on personal and social distance, and observing images of the cosmos generated by NASA, one could assume that ‘breaking out’ of one’s own area applies to every domain of life. Imagination and the desire for exploration set the direction for our thoughts and actions, defying the laws of time and space. The ‘diagram’ is merely a starting point and an inspiration for many drawings and spatial forms that I will present during the show.”
