“Condensation of shapes while at the same time making them disheveled, capricious, primitivist accents, poetic understatement (also visible in the titles of the works), figures that arouse anxiety – often on the verge of figurativeness, as if caught in the moment of an ominous metamorphosis, human-like, animalistic or deformed figures… Piotr Kotlicki’s paintings carry many possible interpretations. There is a mystery in them. However, certain motifs persistently return. Like Adidas stripes on clothing. What’s more – the formation of a picture, although perhaps I shouldn’t reveal the painting’s backstage – is a bildung in itself. (…) Sometimes bildung takes on a drastic shape”. (Zaręba-Vitczakoff)
