Between Sign and Image

Monika Aleksandrowicz’s work encompasses asemic writing, visual language, and geometric structures inspired by rhythm and mathematics. In her projects, she explores visual communication as a space of tension between the sign, the image, and meaning. She is the creator of the series Semiography, CUBES, and MEANDER, as well as light interventions in urban spaces.
Reflecting on her practice, the artist states:
“My visual interests involve exploring the boundaries of cognition within signs, texts, and visual structures—reaching the point of interpretative paradoxes. I am drawn to places where meaning shifts and opens up to a multiplicity of readings, transcending our perceptual habits. I create artist’s books, asemic journals, and projects based on visual language, treating them as forms of open communication—not as finished messages, but as invitations to co-create meaning. I experiment with geometric structures inspired by mathematics and rhythm, which I interpret as visual scores that allow for multilayered reception.”
